What to bring to the Hospital when giving birth

I would like to share with you what we brought to the hospital, when my wife Cheds, gave birth to our son Liam. I hope i would be able to help you figure out what you really need to bring for a 3 days stay at the hospital.

When Cheds and I finished preparing our hospital bags, it looked like we were packing for an out of town vacation.

We had:
1 Baby Bag
1 Personal Bag
1 Personal Luggage
1 Baby Luggage

Let me break down what these bags contain:

Baby Bag (Small)
This was the bag that we brought to the labor room, these are just few baby things, that we thought Liam might need right after birth. It had the ff:

2 Pairs Onesises
2 skull caps
2 pairs socks
2 pairs baby gloves
2 muslin blankets

* When Liam came out, the nurse only asked for 1 muslin blanket, to used as a swaddle for Liam, since St. Lukes already provided a whole outfit when Liam came out

Personal Bag (Small)
This was another bag that we brought to the Labor Room. These are the things that we thought that we (Cheds & I) might need while waiting .
It had the ff:

Cellphone chargers
Power Bank
Digi Cam
Crackers (for dadddy)
Cup Noodles (for daddy)
Pen (you will be filling up a lot of forms, an extra pen may come in handy)

*Dads to bring a jacket, the cold waiting rooms becomes colder when you're a bit nervous

Personal Luggage
This our luggage for all our things good for 3 days 2 nights stay

Toiletries:
Soap
Shampoo
Toothbrush
Toothpaste
Deodorant
* St. Lukes does provide basic toiletries, but we brought our own just to be sure

Clothes for 3 days 2 nights
* Do bring extra clothes just in case the baby accidentally weewees on you
Dads
* Do bring comfortable slippers since the hospital will be your home for a few days

For moms (tips from my wife Cheds):
*Bring comfortable slippers
* Bring an extra bathrobe, the hospital may provide you one, but its better to have extra. Youll be wearing this a lot since visitors may come and go any time of the day, and you may not want to be dressed in just a hospital gown. Plus its easy access for breast feeding.
* You will need maternity sanitary napkins, we bought hers at Mothercare in Eastwood
* You will need Betadine Feminine Wash

*** Mommies, do bring Prune Juice. because you can get constipated after birth, and they will need you to poop :)

Documents
* Marriage Certificate

Baby Luggage
Funny because our Baby Luggage was bigger than our Personal Luggage which Cheds and I just shared.

My wife organised the baby bag by separating the items by category in big Zip lock bags (You can get this in groceries) For example the Onesies are all in one bag, the Towels are all in one bag, etc.
This helped a lot whenever I needed to get something from the Baby Luggage because, your hospital room can get really messy really fast.

Baby Clothes
Onesies
Skull Caps
Baby Gloves
Baby Socks
* We thought we already brought a lot but apparently Liam needed to change like 4-5 times a day because he would always pee on his shirt every time we would change his diapers, so you can never have too much.

Baby Toiletries
Cetaphil Baby Head to toe wash
Cetaphil Baby Lotion
Bath Hand Towels
Bath Towels
* Whats nice in SL-BGC is that they also taught us how to give our newborn a bath. Scary at first but you'll get used to it after a few tries.

Diapers
Huggies NB (new born)
*We brought 20 diapers, it was enough for 3 days

Swaddle / Muslin Blankets
Halo New Born Swaddle
Muslin Blankets form Baby Company

The Halo Swaddle was very easy to use, its just a 1-2-3 step, but since we only had one, we had to use the Muslin Blankets for swaddling more when the Halo got peed on.
Surprisingly, i preferred to use the Muslin Blankets for swaddling, i enjoyed making a lumpia out of our baby.
The nurses will teach you how to swaddle the baby properly :)

So there! I hope this was helpful if you are thinking about what to bring to the hospital when your wife will give birth!
